Yes I have read the mandate time and again and I fully understand the role it has to play for the RA.
Amongst others, I especially like the role of AVC , To maintain and harmonize the various mandates of the working groups of Auroville and to see that the working groups function according to their mandates,
To harmonize the interaction among the working groups and the activities of the Residents of Auroville,
Deal with emerging issues that fall outside the purview of other working groups,Report regularly to the Residents’ Assembly on its activities, Ensure that the principles of natural justice are observed in Auroville such as providing relief from arbitrariness in decision-making. Convene regular General Meetings
I believe a strong and confident AVC at this point of our collective evolution; an AVC with a strong spine is the need of the hour, An AVC which also has the humility to bring appropriate issues to the RA and tap into the creative genius of this community.
I want a part of an AVC which draws the inspiration from The Charter, The Dream and To be a true Aurovilian.

Being a professional billiard and snooker sports man, working eight years at Sri Aurobindo Ashram, knowing three language including mastery of Tamil, working in so many facets of Auroville life have really contributed to my heightened interpersonal skills, to my sharpness at assessing and gauging the situation at hand to be able give right responses, my sense of oneness and identification with our community, my enthusiasm to serve, my capacity to connect and relate to any and all age groups also makes me a good candidate for AVC.
Above all my connection to Mother and Sri Aurobindo is my greatest strength, my understanding and application of the aims and ideals of Auroville is the corner stone on which I have build my life in Auroville,
I firmly believe in the adage “no words, acts”. Although I am asked to give descriptions on this form, to walk the talk is what I am looking for.

I really love the quote of our RA.. which goes something like….

Painting and learning in my own process, teaching drawing and painting and help running CREEVA which runs an Open Studio with all materials provided and gives classes in everything to do with physical creativity in drawing and painting.

Yes, what especially stands out about AVC is:
1) ” … to coordinate the objectives of the working groups of Auroville and ensure that they function according to their individual mandates” Is it possible that many of the current complaints discussed in the community related to working groups could ideally be addressed by a strong Auroville Council giving ongoing priority and maintenance to this task**?
2) I have understood that the Council is also tasked with tending to internal affairs. There’s a lot of potential for Auroville Council to become a clearer and more cohesive point of entry from which issues can be better delegated and resolutions overseen/expedited.

**RA Add-on is a very practical initiative (pending development within RA Revival) with a lot of potential with which AVC can collaborate for working group oversite).

Several individuals already part of the groups (now or past) and who have observed the evolving work of Residents for Residents (grass roots natural justice) and Purna Shakti (safety) have encouraged me to participate. I hope I can come adding some value and of course, I am very keen to become more competent.
I’m very interested to develop ‘psychic tact’ and effectiveness in areas which ask for decisive actions to be taken.
I would like to be a part of an Auroville Council which can express: knowledge, compassion & force. When even one of the big three is lacking we feel it. When only one is expressing it is also very lopsided. A balance of all three is something I am very interested in as an aim.

There’s a super re-newal of Residents Assembly energy activating. I would like to contribute to a more robust dynamic between the Resident’s Assembly and Auroville Council (as intended).

What is your work experience in Auroville?
I was working as an English Teacher at AIAT, Irumbai. Almost worked there for three years. Then did an administrative job at an Auroville Unit Tapasya like HR involved with handling the client to dealing with employees, documentation & correspondence. Since past three to four year I am the part of Matrimandir access-group specially working to do the repeat visitors online booking & the bookings for the First time visitors. From 2018 onward I am working at the Auroville Health Fund where my work includes almost everything, meeting the newcomers, making appointments for them at hospitals, assisting them to finish up their health fund process, correspond with the AVHF Members & help them with their queries, fund transfers etc. As a caretaker & executive of Shri Arohan, I got an opportunity to look into the commercial side of Auroville Finance.

Yes, I do have the knowledge & understanding of the responsibilities & the work that the group performs. Openness, Being Receptive & to be Sincere in one’s work is what I believe in. Where ever I worked & am currently working these are principals that I follow. I believe in Mother’s Teaching “your work is your Meditation”& that always something I have been practising in my work. The way Mother exposed me to the different work experiences in Auroville help me to learn a lot of different aspect from teamwork to decision making, from teaching to Finance & much more. It would be a privilege to offer my education & experienced knowledge for the community.

My present team was bringing in a diaspora of knowledge on different aspects of Auroville and we were able to work successfully only because there was a diversity.

While working in the Council, I came across a lot of issues that need attention and we initiated several processes and I would like to complete these mission visions that we had as team.
There are amendments needed in our processes that deal with employees, there is a need to strengthen the people who serve in the RAS.
We need to find ways to connect all residents with one another more often in new ways.
To increase residents participations in making Auroville through its guidelines on various subjects and also active participation in formulating mandates and policies is what i would like to contribute in.

For the past 14 years I’ve managed and grown Isai Ambalam guest house.
I used to be an executive at Eco Service for 3 years, founding Auroscrap, building/financing infrastructure there, amongst other things…
Over the years I’ve taught guitar and singing to many students and still do.
I briefly taught English as a second language at the language lab.
I’ve organised and performed in many musical and cultural events.
And now for the past 10 months I’ve been a GFCG member. I’ve unofficially been acting as the GFCG secretary, maintaining the email account, creating agendas, writing minutes etc. As well as overseeing the revisioning and progress of the new online guest portal as part of the PDTF.

I have been part of the Entry Taskforce and of the Entry service interim group. As at that point there was no division between the Entry board and the entry office, together with the rest of the team we were confronted with all responsibilities and challenges of the work of the Entry office as well as the Entry Board.

The challenges in Auroville are in continuing evolution. To tell the truth I believe that one does not have always enough competence and qualification to confront the new challenges, but I hope that my experience would help in this task.

I have full overview knowledge and understanding of the tasks of the Entry Board then nominated again for the interim selection process from the beginning of 2020 for a second time.

I ran a small consultancy business, initially as a partnership, finally as a limited company. I prepared full accounts for submission to a chartered accountant.
I have worked in projects and operations, including as leader. I understand the importance of post-delivery review and monitoring for fine tuning and for learning how to do future projects better.

I do believe that i have qualities and competences to participate in the working of FAMC. I have since years consolidated knowledge of Auroville’s aims and ideals, its workings, and interactions within itself and with the outside world to provide a concise insight for visitor to Auroville. It is a capacity to look at the larger picture and it’s interrelation and condense that information.

I also have a broad understanding of accounting, GST and Auroville’s internal economic system, through my work interactions at Inside India, ABC and with other Aurovilian’s. I have dealt with Service tax officials, Chartered Accounts, and lawyers in my capacity at Inside India.

Yes i can work in a team. Though ‘on field’ work for Inside India is solitary by nature of the work, it rests on a strong team work and trust that each team member fulfills their role for the good of the whole.

Farewell is a tight team work. We learn to respect every team members capacities, time, input, growth, and ability to adapt to each situation. Though we have different perspectives, ideas, ages, backgrounds, it has taught me the importance to set the focus on the common goal and see how that can be achieved and in times of need to put aside ones differences and preferences.

I am also executive of Auroville Activities under Kattida Kalai Trust which gives me an insight from that perspective.

Yea I do. I have completed my degree with a master’s in economics from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. What is your work experience in Auroville?
I came to Auroville in 2004 but continued to live permanently since 2005 and since that time at any given point I have engaged full time in Auroville in multiple activities at the same time. Some of them in no particular order are:
Coordination and functioning of Multimedia Center (venue)
Coordination and functioning of Cinema Paradiso (film group)
Coordination and revival of a restoration project – in three coastal villages taken up by Auroville Coastal-Area Development Council in the years post-Tsunami (4yrs)
Research, publication, and awareness generation – re Edible Weeds to adapt to climate change, and more importantly better health. Several individuals, farms, and eateries in Auroville have benefited from this (8 yrs)
Sharing of knowledge to recycle waste better by making ones own bio-enzyme from citrus waste – to interested Aurovilians/NC and women from the bioregion (4 yrs)

Yes, I have worked as the Administrative Assistant for BCC for 7yrs (until December 2019).

I have been involved directly in coordination and management of a venue (MMC) and group (Cinema Paradiso) : In a typical year it is used for 900+ hrs, needs a lot of attention to its maintenance. Normally it received ~50% of its budget from the City Services and had to raise the rest. (This has stopped since March 2020). Still, the evening film program by Cinema Paradiso is one of the few services in Auroville that is still offered for free.

In coordinating restoration program in the coastal villages – I had to review the ongoing program as I took over the coordination, identified what went wrong, suggested and implemented course correction — both in finance and management, and the project turned around. To help it succeed, I had raised funds for it to continue beyond the project period. Those trees still stand.

Yes, As I have written before – I have always worked in diverse groups – multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural… with different and sometime seemingly opposing viewpoints from my own. To work well in such wonderful environment one needs clarity – and ability to collaborate, coordinate, and communicate. I think I have. Trained as an ecologist – financial institutions such a World Bank always seemed to have opposite interest from conservation and very different views on development. I had worked with the World Bank and it had allowed me to understand their strength, constraints, appreciate the efforts they make internally, and enable them to address conservation better with my skill. My decision to join BCC was in a way similar.
I am able to listen and understand different view points; an essential skill for a team player.

The FAMC also approves the creation and closure of Trusts and Units and the appointment and resignation of Trustees and Executives; it oversees the performance of Trusts and Units; and evolves guidelines and policies for the management of Trusts, Units and immovable assets such as housing and other public buildings and funds held by Auroville Unity Fund.

Help create a 3-year work plan for the team, with inputs from all members, to set key areas, on course – to be shared with incoming GB & IAC and the community while keeping space for emergencies and fire-fighting instead of the reverse. I’m Am still under the process of understanding of how the Working committee works. But the greatest experience will be when I sit and start working with them. That’s how the learning is faster. I’m a 24-year-old, I may be the youngest member applying, but this is a step to get the youth involved in these type of working groups, who are going to take Auroville forward. I have the passion to bring innovative ideas to change the current confusion that we have in Auroville. As a child born here, I’m very much sensitive to the things happening here, hence want to join this group and do all that I can.
I’m very sure, Mother would be very happy for this, to bring a youngster in.

I am qualified, I understand the emotions of the people in Auroville and how others are looking at us. As said before, I was born here and gone through the education from childhood, since the beginning, starting from Meeramuki school to Last School, im was taught why Auroville is here and what all should be done. We are all here and working towards the path, Mother wanted Auroville to be. I can make things happen right here.
We are in the process of building a city that should be a model to the outer world and I can carve it well.
All this is because I understand the emotions of the people here. This is the best qualification. In a team, we need people with different qualifications.

As a trained teacher with a PhD about Sri Aurobindo’s Educational Philosophy from the University of Cologne, Germany I was one of the Founder Members of Auroville International and first Chairman of Auroville International Germany. With this and an economic background I was assigned by a German Political Foundation as Head of Office for India, based in New Delhi; later as Regional Director for South Asia. In these capacities (almost 10 years) I developed a fairly good understanding about the political structure in India and its economic representations, including Tamil Nadu.

I was in a similar position later, posted to the USA, based in Washington, DC, working partly with the UN. In a nutshell: I have years of administrative experience in an international environment so I believe I am qualified and competent to participate in the Working Committee as a term-based member.

Yes, as I have shown it in the past – and not only in the Working Committee and the other relevant groups.

I have been connected to and involved with Auroville since 1974, but I joined as a resident 6 years ago. As a result, I have quite an open and independent mind, not bound to any School of Thoughts or camps, so dedicated to Mothers Dream of the International Township for Human Unity. After the 50 years it’s time for stocktaking. awaiting a new Chairman, a new Governing Board, a new Secretary. Challenging times ahead. In practical terms it means an intensified, direct communication with the different groups and stakeholders in Auroville. This might even lead to a restructuring of responsibilities and workload in the frame of the AV Foundation Act.

Auroville is a unique experience and adventure all of us from diver culture and nationality, to learn, to grow and to serve the humanity as a whole. I have been a teacher in past teaching theatre, sports and Awareness through the body. Have served in RAS 10 years back. Currently, I am the liaison for AV security. One of the challenging work area in the WC. It has challenges of delicate human issues, such as dealing with violence, robbery, deaths, land encroachments, accidents etc. Though the security takes care of minor issues, the assistance of WC is needed when the scenario is bigger.

Legal matters: court cases from locals courts to Madras High Court. Member of TDC team from 2013 to 2018. Member of Land protection Group from 2013 till today. Liaison with local autorities from Panchayats level to Chief Secretariat in Channai. Liaison with the Auroville Foundation form many years.

Yes – Former member of the WC and in contact with ground and update of issues facing the community till today. I am fully aware of the dangers of further erosions of ethical values that are expected from us. I am also deeply involved in the protection of Auroville against encroachments of private developers and will dedicate my task to ensure that.

I am competent and qualified. I am fully trained for legal matters, for contacts with authorities. Fluent in French, in English and good knowledge of spoken Tamil. The years to come will be crucial for Auroville who is now faced with several serious issues from all sides including internal ones. It is time to help Auroville to move towards Mother’s Dream and stop the drifting away we have seen in the last decade.

I have been in many General meetings, reflected and shared about the major issues of Auroville.
If I am selected, I will do my best to put my energy and time to work with the team, for the present and prepare the future of Auroville, the City the Earth Needs.

I have been working in Auroville for external relations and networking, I have been part of the Asia-urbs project of the European Commission, I am active in the Italian pavilion and I am executive of Eutecne, a consultancy unit under Aurore trust at CSR.
I have been a coordinator member in L’avenir d’Auroville /TDC (2007-2017) and I have represented l’Avenir d’Auroville in BCC (2008-2010) and Famc (2012 -2016).

I have experience in dealing with external authorities from my previous work before joining Auroville as well as from within Auroville. I have experience in other fields of work in Auroville like economy, town planning, project development, fundraising, cultural events that might be useful in understanding the different facets of Auroville life its richness and its complexities.

I can say that I have experience in certain areas of work that are part of the task of the working committee. I am a bit hesitant to use the word competent because Auroville is a special place and any technical knowledge should be adjusted to the realities of Auroville, their specific character and their evolving nature. Even with the best technical skill, working in any group in Auroville is an exercise of continuous learning and humility that requires us to be willing to look beyond our own specialized knowledge and to keep in mind the core value we have to represent.

The team constitution is the outcome of a community process, even if imperfect and subject to improvement. Therefore by submitting a nomination I am ready to work with the selected team and to do my best to have constructive cooperation if I will chosen to be part of it.

Auroville is a place where things should be done not only better but in a different way. My hope and aim is to give a contribution in this direction. I have some administrative experience inside and outside of Auroville and I am trying to integrate it in the Auroville context, taking into consideration the human angle and our core values. To protect the physical manifestation of Auroville as a place for human evolution and agnostic society is one of my main motivation and therefore I am really concerned on land matters that are facing a very critical situation. Making the place stable, secure and socially sustainable for people who have joined Auroville from all over the world is another area in which I would like to direct my effort for an effective contribution.

Auroville is at a very critical juncture and faces many challenges. We need to secure the remaining city land because the physical integrity of the project is endangered by private development. There is a growing conflictuality. There is a need to review the governance system and simplify it. The economy is not yet self-supporting. The relations and understanding with the surrounding region need to improve.
We may progress and go forward beyond these challenges only if we are capable to collectively realign to the original vision of Auroville.

facilitate Police Liaison, help to sort conflicts with Auroville community members and others, generally take part in emergency support, take active interest in Auroville’s growth with the ideals of Auroville for truer human unity would be some of the tasks to be dealt with.

I have read carefully the mandate and responsibilities of the Working Committee and am ready to devote the time and energy needed to do the work.
I do not have knowledge of certain technical and legal matters but they can be studied and learnt whenever and wherever needed. In any case, all issues relating to such matters must always be dealt with in consultation with legal and technical experts in coordination with the rest of the team and the AV Foundation.
I have, at present the time, inclination and energy to do the work and am available to devote myself to it, if selected.

I do not see any other way of working since there are going to be 7 members in this team.

As far as I have understood this is the way we are supposed to work in Auroville and I do not see why I should not be able to work with fellow Aurovilians in the team.

If I am, to be honest, I cannot say that I will do this and I will do that which would amount to empty promises because I don’t as yet know how I am going to be employed in the team. This is going to be a team decision… if selected.

I am at present receiving half a maintenance from BCC since Samasti Guest House did not have sufficient income since several months to cover my maintenance. If the maintenance from BCC continues, I should be able to manage.

If and whenever possible, I would like to continue to do a few chores at the Matrimandir such as:
sweep under the Banyan Tree two or three afternoons a week from 3 to 4.30 pm
Attend the weekly coordinators meeting Wednesday afternoon from 2.45 to 3.45 pm
Matrimandir Pillar duty Friday afternoons from 4.30 to 6.30 pm.

I imagine, the workload of a WC member extends well beyond the so-called normal working hours and therefore a few hours a week of physical work under the Banyan tree would help to refresh and recharge the inner battery for better performance…

In any case, all this is hypothetical and remains to be seen in the future if and when…
